“Preparing for Eternity: What Must We Do Before We Arrive?”
“Preparing for Eternity: What Must We Do Before We Arrive?”
We prepare for everything in life.
If we travel… we pack.
If we meet someone important… we get ready.
If we go somewhere new… we make sure we have what we need.
But what about eternity?
“Prepare to meet your God.” — Amos 4:12
If heaven is real…
If God is real…
If Jesus is truly waiting on the other side…
Then this is not just a trip.
This is the final destination.
So the question becomes:
Are we prepared?
We say we believe in God.
But Scripture reminds us:
“Even the demons believe—and tremble.” — James 2:19
So belief alone… is not the goal.
True faith transforms.
It reshapes how we live, how we love, and who we become.
“Faith without works is dead.” — James 2:17
Jesus is not just someone we meet after death—
He is someone we must walk with now.
“Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.” — 1 John 2:6
✝️ 1. Know What God Wants
Not opinion.
Not culture.
Not convenience.
But truth.
“This is the will of God, your sanctification…” — 1 Thessalonians 4:3
God’s desire is not just that we believe—
but that we are set apart, transformed, made new.
✝️ 2. Know Who God Is
God is not who we imagine Him to be.
He reveals Himself:
“The Lord, the Lord, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love…” — Exodus 34:6
But also:
“Our God is a consuming fire.” — Hebrews 12:29
He is both Love and Holiness.
To know Him wrongly… is to walk blindly.
✝️ 3. Follow Him Faithfully
Jesus did not say admire Me.
He said:
“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23
This is not casual.
This is surrender in motion.
❤️ 4. Become Love
Love is not a concept—it is evidence.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
And Jesus made it unmistakable:
“By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” — John 13:35
So don’t just carry love.
Become it.
If love were a bottle…
step inside it
and become its content.
🙏 5. Surrender Everything
This is where many stop… but where everything begins.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20
This is not partial surrender.
This is total transfer of ownership.
⚖️ THE SOBERING TRUTH
Not everyone who thinks they are ready… is ready.
Jesus Himself warned:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…” — Matthew 7:21
This is where discernment matters.
Salvation is not performance—
but it produces evidence.
✨ FINAL REALIZATION
If we prepare for temporary destinations…
how much more should we prepare for an eternal one?
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord,
Teach me not just to believe in You…
but to walk with You.
Give me discernment to know Your truth,
courage to follow Your ways,
and a heart that reflects Your love.
Strip away what is not of You.
Shape me into who You are calling me to be.
So when I stand before You…
I am not a stranger.
Amen.
