Be Careful Who You Listen To (Proverbs 1:10–15 Explained)

“Not everyone speaking into your life is leading you the right way…”

Voices are everywhere.

Advice… opinions… influence… pressure…

Some are subtle.
Some are loud.
Some sound convincing.

And sometimes…

they don’t sound wrong at all.

But not every voice is meant to guide you.

📖 Proverbs 1:10–15 (KJV)

“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood,
let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

Let us swallow them up alive as the grave;
and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

We shall find all precious substance,
we shall fill our houses with spoil:

Cast in thy lot among us;
let us all have one purse:

My son, walk not thou in the way with them;
refrain thy foot from their path.”

💭 What This Means

This passage isn’t just about obvious wrongdoing.

It’s about influence.

It’s about the people, voices, and ideas that try to pull you in directions you know aren’t right.

Sometimes the invitation sounds appealing:

  • “Everyone else is doing it…”
  • “It’s not that serious…”
  • “You deserve this…”

But underneath it…

there’s a path that leads away from wisdom.

🔥 The Subtle Danger

The danger isn’t always clear at first.

It doesn’t always look wrong.
It doesn’t always feel wrong.

That’s what makes it dangerous.

Because not every voice comes with warning signs.

Some come with persuasion.
Some come with confidence.
Some come disguised as opportunity.

💥 The Truth to Remember

Not every voice deserves your agreement.

Just because something is offered…
doesn’t mean it should be accepted.

Just because it sounds right…
doesn’t mean it leads to life.

God calls us to be discerning.

To pause.
To think.
To choose wisely.

🙏 A Moment to Reflect

Who or what has been influencing your decisions lately?

A voice…
A habit…
A direction you’ve been considering…

Take a moment and ask yourself honestly:

👉 Is this leading me closer to God… or further away?

🙌 A Short Prayer

Lord,
Help me to recognize the voices that do not come from You.

Give me wisdom to discern what is right,
and strength to walk away from what isn’t.

Guide my steps…
and keep me on the path that leads to life.

Amen.
