π Peace Is a Choice
John 14:27
βPeace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your hearts be troubled.β
Jesus once again spoke words that reach far beyond the surface when He said this. Though simple in sound, they carry a depth that invites us to stop, reflect, and look inward.
Let us go a little deeper into these profound words of Jesus.
What He is telling us is this: He has already given us peace.
Not just any peace β but His peace.
Not the kind this world offers, but a peace that only He can give.
And because He has already given it, we truly have nothing to worry about β if we choose to accept it.
This is where many of us struggle.
You see, peace is a choice.
Having peace is a choice.
We do not acquire peace β especially not the kind the world offers. The peace of this world is fleeting. It may stay for a while, but eventually it fades. The world defines peace in many ways β comfort, success, security, control β yet all of these are temporary. Like everything else in this world, they last only for a season and then vanish.
The peace Jesus speaks of is different.
It is spiritual.
It is eternal.
And it has already been given.
All we truly have to do is accept it and choose it.
Peace is a choice.
God has given us free will, and with that free will comes responsibility. We must choose wisely. When we willingly choose peace β Christβs peace β we receive the very peace Jesus promised and left with us.
This is not a shallow calm.
It is not denial.
It is not escape.
It is the peace of knowing that when we accept Jesus, everything will work out for good.
Why?
Because Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
With Him, there is no need to worry.
If He created you, then He can fix anything that goes astray within you.
He is the Rebuilder.
The Redeemer.
The Remaker.
The Revivaler.
The Restorer.
The Repairer.
This is precisely why He said in John 14:27:
βMy peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you β not the kind the world gives. So do not let your hearts be troubled.β
This assurance has been present all along β yet it is so often overlooked.
By many.
Including you.
Including me.
But today, we can choose differently.
Peace is a choice.
And Christ has already made that choice available to us.
