Trust in the Lord, Not in Man

A Reflection on Jeremiah 17:5–14 (KJV)

📖 Featured Verse

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”
Jeremiah 17:7 KJV

⚠️ The Danger of Trusting in Man

“Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:5–6 KJV

That sounds frightening — and it should.
God warns that when we place our trust in people rather than in Him, we step out from under His covering.
We become like a plant in the desert — dry, struggling, and unfruitful.

This verse is not just a warning; it’s a spiritual truth.
When our confidence is rooted in the world, we lose touch with the living waters that sustain us.
But when we trust in the Lord, something beautiful happens…

🌳 The Blessing of Trusting in the Lord

“He shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river… her leaf shall be green.”
Jeremiah 17:8 KJV

What a powerful promise!
When your hope is in God, even the “heat” of life cannot wither you.
Your roots draw nourishment from His endless river of grace.

Pull-Quote:
“Even in drought, a believer whose roots are in God will never stop bearing fruit.”

Sometimes we forget — there is no one higher than God Himself.
Only in Jesus Christ can we find living water that never runs dry (John 4:14).

💔 The Deceitful Heart

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9–10 KJV

The human heart can be our greatest enemy when it is left unguarded.
It seeks comfort, pride, and power — not always truth.
But when surrendered to Christ, it becomes purified and made new.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23 KJV

Guard your heart.
Feed your mind daily with the Word of God so your faith will stand firm when the storms come.

💰 The Vanity of Riches

“He that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.”
Jeremiah 17:11 KJV

What a sobering thought!
We chase after wealth, status, and things that vanish like smoke.
But God reminds us that true riches are not found in possessions — they’re found in righteousness.

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Mark 8:36 KJV

Pull-Quote:
“Worldly wealth fades, but heavenly treasures last forever.”

Let us build treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19–21), where no thief can steal them.

🕊️ The Lord, Our Sanctuary

“A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O Lord, the hope of Israel…”
Jeremiah 17:12–14 KJV

God has always been our refuge.
Those who forsake Him will wander in shame and emptiness.
But those who call upon His name will find healing, forgiveness, and peace.

“Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
1 John 4:4 KJV

When His Word lives in you, no power of darkness can shake you.

✨ Reflection

The message of Jeremiah is crystal clear:
Do not place your faith in man or in self.
Anchor your heart to God’s promises, and your soul will thrive even through droughts and storms.

Pull-Quote:
“Root yourself beside His living waters, and you will flourish — even in drought.”

🙏 Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Teach me to place my trust in You alone.
Guard my heart from pride and deceit, and help me root my faith deeply in Your living Word.
When the heat of life comes, keep my leaves green and my spirit fruitful.
Heal me, Lord, and I shall be healed. Save me, and I shall be saved — for You are my praise.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

✝️ Final Thought

“He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.”
Let this truth echo in our hearts every day,
for God’s Word is not just our shield — it is our sanctuary.
