📖 The Centurion’s Faith
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman centurion came to Him, pleading:
“Lord, my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
Jesus replied:
“Shall I come and heal him?”
But the centurion said:
“Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes.”
Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following Him:
“Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith!”
Then Jesus said to the centurion:
“Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”
And at that very moment, the servant was healed.
💡 Meaning and Lesson
- The centurion’s humility (“I am not worthy…”) and faith in Jesus’ authority impressed even Jesus Himself.
- It shows that faith transcends nationality or position — even a Roman soldier could believe deeply in Christ.
- It reminds us that Jesus’ power is not limited by distance — His word alone heals.
- It also teaches us the beauty of trusting God’s authority completely, even without seeing.
