“Hanging Around with God: A Funny Look at Aging Gracefully”

Getting old is like wearing a sweatshirt one size too big — everything starts to hang!
If you’re fat, the fat hangs.
If you’re skinny, the skin hangs.
And when you get old, you end up just hanging around!

We hang on to the youth we once had.
We hang on to the beauty or that handsome stud — the sexy, foxy, pretty cutie we used to be!
We hang on to the strength, the energy, the companionship.

Most often, we hang on to our earthly desires and treasures.
And when our bodies ache and tire easily, we just… hang around some more!
We let the younger ones do the things we used to do.
We cling to the good memories, the joys, and the blessings that once made us smile.

Simply put — we’re hanging for life!

The Other Kind of Hanging Around

But as funny as it sounds, there’s another kind of hanging around
one that matters most, and it’s eternal.

Because no matter how much our bodies sag or slow down,
there’s something (or rather, Someone) worth holding on to forever.

God.

God is who He is — the Creator of us all.
So, who should we really be hanging around or hanging on to?

Hang On to God

Hang on to His divinity.
Hang on to His promises.
Hang on to His healing and care.
Hang on to His love for humanity.
Hang on to His power that lifts and renews.
Hang on to His grace, forgiveness, and eternal kingdom.

When we hang on to God, it’s okay to get old —
because it means we’re getting closer to Him every day.

That’s the good news!

A Little Humor Between Heaven and Home

Of course, I’d still like to enjoy more time with my wife down here —
because I’m not sure how things will go up there if we end up as brother and sister!
I’m already a handful as her husband,
and if heaven has family reunions, I can only imagine the sibling dynamics! 😄

But God promised that in His kingdom there will be no more pain and no more sorrow.
So maybe that means no more “pain-in-the-rear” brothers or sisters either!
Now that’s heaven!

The Takeaway

So, hang on to God’s promises —
and you can face aging with joy, humor, and peace.

Life may sag a little here and there,
but your spirit doesn’t have to.
Keep hanging on to what really matters —
and live life happy, regardless of the situation.

Because someday soon,
you’ll be hanging around with God Himself.
